Each year, the United Negro College Fund delivers a night filled with laughs, cheers and star-studded entertainment with its annual 'A Mind Is…' gala, raising funds to continue its mission to provide scholarships to well deserving students.
Held downtown at Houston’s well known Hilton Americas on November 21st, Houston Style was on hand for the prestigious event attended by top city leaders along with prominent members of the community. Those honored included Gerald and Anita Smith who received the “Excellence in Education” award and Ann Best who presented with the “John and Drucie Chase Young Builders” award.
Also honored was Huston-Tilltston University student and UNCF scholarship recipient Angelica Erazo, who shared a poignant tale about her life being transformed after receiving the funds that allowed her to pursue an education. The night ended with a bang thanks to a performance from the legendaryJeffrey Osborne, who closed the night with classics like “You Should Be Mine.” Osborne easily sealed the deal on the UNCF's gala worth remembering.
